Anu-Chintanam

Vidura, also known as Vidura Pandita, is a prominent figure from the ancient Indian epic, the Mahabharata. He was the half-brother of King Dhritarashtra and the uncle of the Kaurava and Pandava princes. Vidura was renowned for his wisdom, integrity, and impartiality, and he played a significant role as a counselor and advisor during the events of the Mahabharata.

Vidura’s teachings and advice were highly regarded and often served as a voice of reason amidst the conflicts and intrigues that unfolded in the epic.

Vidura’s teachings, known as Vidura Niti, have been revered for their timeless wisdom and moral guidance. They continue to inspire individuals to lead virtuous lives and navigate the complexities of the world with wisdom, fairness, and integrity.

षडिमान् पुरुषो जह्यात् भिन्नं नावमिवार्णवे अप्रवक्तारम् आचार्यम् अनध्यायिनम् ऋत्विजम् । अरक्षितारं राजानं भार्यां चाऽप्रियवादिनीं ग्रामकामं च गोपालं वनकामं च नापितम्॥

English – A teacher who is silent, a priest who does not recite mantras, a king unable to protect, a wife who speaks bitterly, a cowherd who wants to live in a village and a barber who wants to live in a forest – these six people should be discarded like a boat with holes in it.

Hindi – चुप रहने वाले आचार्य, मंत्र न बोलने वाले पंडित, रक्षा में असमर्थ राजा, कड़वा बोलने वाली पत्नी, गाँव में रहने के इच्छुक ग्वाले तथा जंगल में रहने के इच्छुक नाई – इन छह लोगों को वैसे ही त्याग देना चाहिए जैसे छेदवाली नाव को त्याग दिया जाता है ।

Kannada – ಮೌನಿಯಾದ ಗುರು, ಮಂತ್ರ ಹೇಳದ ಪುರೋಹಿತ, ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾರದ ರಾಜ, ಖಾರವಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಹೆಂಡತಿ, ಹಳ್ಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಬಯಸುವ ಗೋಪಾಲಕ, ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಬಯಸುವ ಕ್ಷೌರಿಕ- ಈ ಆರು ಜನರನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸಲಾಗುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ ರಂಧ್ರಗಳಿರುವ ದೋಣಿಯನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೋ ಅದರಂತೆ .

Sanskrit – मौनी गुरुः यः न पाठयति, पुरोहितः यः मन्त्रं न पठति, प्रजान् रक्षितुम् असमर्थः राजा, कठोरवाचिका पत्नी, गोपालः यः ग्रामे वसितुम् इच्छति, क्षौरिकः यः वने वसितुम् इच्छति – एते षट् जनाः छिद्रयुक्ता नौका इव तिरस्कृताः भविष्यन्ति।
